                    Investment Banking Firms engage in corporate Finance, Mergers and Acquisitions, Merchant Banking, and Financial Consulting:
Bullet.gif (326 bytes)  Corporate Finance is the primary function of investment banking involving the distribution of securities to the public.
Bullet1.gif (326 bytes)  Mergers and acquisitions firms act as advisors to a company involving the sale of a company, part of a company, or specific assets. The investment banker advises the client as to the most favorable terms in the negotiations for a sale, swap or leveraged buyout (LBD).
Bullet.gif (326 bytes)  Merchant Banking involves acting as a principal in anyone of the above transactions.
Bullet1.gif (326 bytes)  Financial Consulting involves advising clients on their financial strategy for any of the above areas. An example of consulting would be a study relating to the optimal capital structure of a firm.

 

The investment bank is on of the most prestigious positions in finance. An MBA may be required.
