CarolAnn Russell has
published four full-length books of poetry: The
Red Envelope (University Presses of Florida, 1985), Feast
(Loonfeather Press, Minnesota 1993) and Silver
Dollar (West End Press, Albuquerque, New Mexico, 1995), and Gypsy Taxi (Backwaters Press, Omaha, Nebraska, 2005). Poems from these collections have been included in many regional and national anthologies.
In addition, she has
published three limited editions of poetry: Italia: Passeggiata (Quiet Crow Press, Minnesota 2000); Without
Reservation (1996); The Tao of Woman (1990). Russell has also won many awards and grants for her poetry
from: the Academy of American Poets, Ragdale Foundation, the Poetry
Society of America, the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota
State Arts Board, and the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference. She was Poet-in-Residence at Villa Vergiliana in Cumae, Italy (2005), and was a resident poet at the American Academy in Rome, Italy (1997, 2000) and also at the Australian Centre, University of Melbourne (1997). She was elected a member of P.E.N. New York City in 1993. Russell was awarded certification as an Archetypal Pattern Analyst from the ASSISI INSTITUTE. under the direction of Dr. Micheal Conforti in 2011. She has given presentations in Vermont and Italy of her poetry in relationship to archetypal patterns and the psyche.
Russell came to Bemidji from Southern Conneticut State University New Haven in 1988. In 1999, Saint Cloud State University awarded her its Distinguished Alumni Award. Russell is Professor of Creative Writing
in the Department of English at Bemidji State
University where she teaches poetry writing, contemporary writers and theory, archetypal patterns, and women's & gender studies.
