Current Grade Sheet

Required Text:        A Pocket Guide to College Success by Jamie H. Shushan.

Prerequisite:            Enrolled student at Bemidji State University

Description:            Designed to support the freshman transition to college, this seminar establishes the core academic skills, social competencies, and values that enable students to excel within the university community. The seminar's ultimate goal is to enhance and enrich the student experience so that students may develop a sense of citizenry and derive the maximum benefit from the intellectual and social opportunities of college life. This is achieved through integrating extracurricular, curricular, and co-curricular offerings within the course content. Faculty lectures, professional staff presentations, and diverse field experiences supplement seminar topic areas.

Goals and objectives of the course:

Students will be able to:

Class participation and quizzes:
Class participation and attendance is required. Missing more than one class will result in a lower grade. All cell phones must be turned off during class.

Homework:            Will prepare you to succeed in the course. You are responsible for completing and understanding each assignment; I recommend study groups of three to four. Each student is expected to share one of the homework questions sometime during the semester.

Exams:            There might be a final exam. Our final exam time is Make-up exams will be given only under special circumstances and need to be discussed with me before hand.  The final exam will be Monday, December 14th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.

Grades:            Grades for this course will be based upon homework, quizzes, and a comprehensive final exam; some of the quizzes may be unannounced.  Items for both will come from the assigned homework.  The following grading scale will be used to determine grades:

A 90 – 100 %
B 80 – 89 %
C 70 – 79 %
D 60 – 69 %
F Below 60%

The instructor reserves the right to adjust the grading scale if necessary.

Working through the assigned problems is essential to success.
