Frequently Asked Questions
Can
I get an extension on the semester deadline for the course?
Yes. After the first semester an incomplete
course will get an "I" for incomplete. After the second semester it is unfinished it gets a failing
grade. Under special circumstances the
deadline can extend beyond two semesters.
However, in my experience those that don't get it done in the first two
semesters rarely ever get the course completed.
How
are letter grades determined?
I
use a straight percentage curve. Ninety
percent or better, (270 out of 300 points), earns an A. Eighty percent, (240 points), earns a
B. Seventy percent, (210 points), earns
a C and so on.
Is
the last exam cumulative?
No.
Each exam is solely on the relevant chapters.
Who
should I contact about class administrative processes?
For
the most part start with the staff at external studies. Most of the mechanics of the course can be
addressed by the helpful people there.
If there is something they can't do, they will refer you to me.
Where
should I get my books?
That
is a much easier question today than a couple of years ago. Your choices there are wide open, internet
sellers or conventional bookstores. Get
used copies if you prefer. It really
doesn't matter where you get the books, so long as they are the right
ones.
