    *Bioprocesses and Biotechnologies (environmental and industrial): a) cultivation of micro algae for CO2 sequestering, production of building-block chemicals, pharmaceuticals, biopolymers, fuels, feeds, elimination of air pollution, and wastewater treatment and reuse, b) bio-refining of high value chemicals using renewable raw-materials and by-products of agro-food-forestry complex, c) development and modeling of microbial processes and bio-reactors for green/sustainable production of biomass, chemicals, and energy.      
       
       
    * Colloid and Green Chemistry: a) adsorption, coagulation, flocculation, and self-aggregation in natural and constructed environments of different salinity, b) minerals and bio-polymers in construction of meso-aggregates, nano-particles, and geo-materials, c) sol-gel technology in adsorption, controlled release of chemicals, photo-catalysis, and environmental monitoring.    
       
       
    * Environmental and Geo-microbiology: a) autotrophic and heterotrophic microbial populations (axenic or mixed) in mineral weathering, mobilization of nutrients and pollutants, bio-mineralization and minimization of anthropogenic perturbations of bio-geochemical cycles, b) stability and transport of bio-colloids and colloids in waters and soils.    
    * Waters: a) chemistry and microbiology, b) development of chemical, microbiological and physico-chemical processes, probes and treatments, c) water-borne colloids, colloidal aggregates, bio-films and bio-fouling, d) reclamation of wastewaters, surface and brackish/saline waters.
